Empowering Caregivers
This online resource is created to assist adults caring for child trauma survivors to have access to skills and techniques to safely recognize and respond to various effects of trauma to support recovery and minimize their influence on daily participation in activities.
When children are exposed to a traumatic event, it causes disruption and instability in maintaining and regulating emotions, relationships, and reasoning. These disruptions negatively affect a child’s ability to participate in daily habits, roles, and routines (Lynch & Mahler, 2021).
Below is a series of tabs that include examples of some adverse/negative effects a child may experience and strategies for minimizing these effects at home. Categories include social participation, activities of daily living (eating, bathing, dressing, etc.), education, play/leisure activities, sleep/rest, and emotional regulation.
